FCG National Tour Spring Series
at Rancho California The Golf Club
at Rancho California Murrieta, CA

Full Leaderboard - Photo Gallery

This weekend consisted of a smaller field due to players wanting to spend Sunday with their Mother’s. There was also record setting heat in the Murrieta area, but the players that did come out played through it and played some great golf!

Boys College Prep Division:
The Boys College Prep division participants played some pretty impressive golf. Harrison Wright (San Diego, CA) who was tied for second after shooting a 76 on Saturday, roared back on Sunday and finished with a 2-under par 71 on Sunday, vaulting him into the lead and ultimately allowing him to win the division at 1-over par. Trevor Norby (Carsbad, CA) played two consecutive days of solid golf shooting 75-76 to land in second place in the division, finishing at 5-over par. Third place went to Griffin Tso (San Diego, CA) who actually tied for 3rd but was able to win the card off after a 77 on Sunday, which was the lower of the two tied scores.

Girls College Prep Division:
The Girls College Prep Division consisted of 4 players this weekend and the top two finishers; Texie Petchel (Temecula, CA) and Lauren Kirkwood (Carlsbad, CA) were well ahead of the other two participants. Both Petchel and Kirkwood finished the tournament at 9-over par. Petchel came back strong on Sunday with an even par 73 after posting an 82 on Saturday. Kirkwood played very consistent both days with a 78 on Saturday and then a 77 on Sunday. The playoff between Petchel and Kirkwood ended on the first hole when Petchel made a par on the par 5 first.

Girls 14 & Under Division:
Being the only participant in the division, Alli Kim (Murrieta, CA) was the default winner, shooting and even par 73 on Saturday, followed up by a 78 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 8-over par. It is important to note that for ranking purposes Kim played the same tees as the Girls College Prep division, which makes her score that much more impressive.

Boys 13-14 Division:
After taking some time off from the game, Devon Bling (Ridgecrest, CA) came back in good form and was able to pull out the victory in the Boys 13-14 division after shooting 77-74 to finish the tournament at 5-over par. There was a tie for second in the division between Paul Sun (Irvine, CA) and Blake Petchel (Temecula, CA). Both players finished the tournament at 12-over par. Both players shot 80 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday, so the card-off was conducted by starting at hole 18 and working our way back until someone made a lower score on a hole. Sun ended up making a lower score on hole 18 so the card-off did not last long and Sun took second place while Petchel took third.

Boys 11-12 Division:
After two players withdrew from the Boys 11-12 division, it only left Alexander Yan (Newport Coast, CA) and Yuki Moriyama (San Diego, CA) to compete for the division. The competition did not disappoint, both players played excellent golf. Yang finished Saturday at 1-over par, while Moriyama was able to shoot an even par 73, giving him the lead by 1 stroke going into Sunday. On Sunday, both players finished in the red numbers: Moriyama, 1-under 72, but Yang was able to go even lower for a final round 2-under 71. This left both Moriyama and Yang in a tie and forced a playoff. The playoff lasted 2 holes and ended when Yang was able to make a birdie on the par 3 second.

Boys 10 & Under:
The Boys 10 & Under division just played 18-holes on Saturday. All four competitors shot very respectable scores for their age and only 4 strokes separated the 1st place finisher from the 4th place finisher. Steven Deutsch (Sun City, CA) shot a 13-over par 86 and won a card-off to take the third place spot. Second place went to Ryan Voois (Ladera Ranch, CA). Voois made two birdies on the day to propel him to a 12-over par 85. The winner of the Boys 10 & under division was Jonas Appel (Encinitas, CA) who finished only 9-over par, good for an 82 on the day.
