Wigwam Tournament Recap:
Tottori Siblings Put Together Strong Showing at FCG Arizona Junior (Dec 1-2)
LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ- David Tottori fired two under par rounds, the second consisting of 5 birdies, of 70-71--141 to take the victory at the Wigwam Golf Resort in the FCG Arizona Junior. After day one the leaders were clear of the rest of the field by 4 shots and they never looked back. After posting a (1-under) 71 on day one, Jackson Whisenhunt left his putter at home and had to scrabble to find a replacement on day two, which must have worked out well because he was able to post a day two score of (even-par) 72 for a two-day total of 143. Jino Sohn made a push for the title on day-two, posting a (1-under) 71, but was held back by the (1-over) 73 on day one, for a two-day score of 144.
The Boys 11-12 division was a highly competitive contest both days of the tournament with all four boys finishing within 5 shots of each other. Ryan Smith had the lead after day one after an even par 72, however, 10 bogeys on day two dropped him into third place with a two-day total of 154. Krando Nishiba and Davis Evans were both consistent in their two rounds, shooting two rounds of 78 (156) and 76 (152) respectively. Dominic Wade, our champion, was 4 shots back after a day one, 76, but he closed with a round of 73 (149) to jump up to the first place position.
Taking after her brother, Kimberlee Tottori, was able to win the Girls 14 & Under division by a 13 stroke margin. Shooting an 80-78--158. There was a hard fought battle for the second place spot in this division. Mikayla Fitzpatrick and Lauren Metcalf were only separated by three shots after day-one, but Fitzpatrick was able to add a stroke to her lead by shooting an 84 compared to Metcalf’s 85 on day two and taking the second place spot and leaving Metcalf in third. A special congratulation goes out to Madison Nam for competing in and finishing her first 36-hole tournament with a final score of 242.
Although Thomas Velarde was the lone competitor in the Boys 10 & Under division, he showed tremendous poise by shooting an 89 on day-two, shaving 9 strokes off of his first round score of 98 for a two-day total of 187. |
