Coming off a highly successful Western States Players Cup, Future Champions Golf rolled into its third World Series Event of the year in Allen, Texas (FCG Texas Championship). Held at The Golf Club at Twin Creeks in Allen, TX; this year’s tournament had representatives from all over the country come to try and gain an exemption into this year’s Callaway Junior World Championship. The severe weather held out just long enough on Saturday for us to finish the first round and cleared out on Sunday early enough that the sunshine finally broke through. We would sincerely like to thank everyone who was a part of making this tournament possible and to everyone who traveled to compete. Congrats to all our winners! We hope to see you all at an upcoming Future Champions Golf tournament.

Boys 15-18 Division:
Spencer Soosman, traveling East from Westlake Village, CA was able to hold off the strong local field from Texas and the surrounding area to take home the victory and the exemption into the Callaway Junior World Championship. Soosman who was in a four-way tie for the lead with: Patrick Rhodes (Cypress, TX), Evan Macias (El Paso, TX) and Matthew Perrine (Austin, TX) after Round 1, was able to shoot the low score of 74 on Sunday to come away with the victory. Rhodes would take second place after firing a 77. There was a four-way tie for third place, which included Macias, Perrine, Jacob Wyatt (Bossier City, LA) and Austen Christiansen (Houston, TX). Christiansen would win the card-off based on low second round, for which he shot a 77.

Girls 15-18 Division:
Another division winner that hails from Minnesota was Sarah Burnham (Maple Grove, MN). The Girls 15-18 division was one of the most highly contested divisions. The top 5 finishers were only separated by a mere 7 strokes. Burnham went 73-78 to finish at a score of 151, 7-over par. Coming in second place was another Californian, Kaho Monica Matsubara (San Diego, CA). Matsubara who was tied for the lead after Saturday, shot 79 the second day to finish at 8-over par 152. There was a tie for third place between local junior golfer Vanessa Ha (Allen, TX) and Cheleen Cousins (Plano, TX). Both golfers shot the exact same score both days (77-77—154) so the card off came down to a hole by hole on the back nine. Cousins would win with a par on the 18th hole.

Girls 13-14 Division:
Our furthest travel award goes to Mayu Hirota, who came all the way from Tokyo, Japan to play in this year’s FCG Texas Championship! Her travels were well worth it, because she was able to win the Girls 13-14 division. In the end Hirota ran away with the division, winning by a total of 25 strokes. She shot 77 on day one and 85 on day two for a total of 162, 18-over par. Coming in at 2nd place was Stormy Randazzo (Rowlett, TX). She beat out Emily Zhou (Southlake, TX) for 2nd place by only one shot. Randazzo went 91-96—187 (43-over par) and Zhou shot 91-97—188 (44-over par) over two days.

Boys 13-14 Division:
Frank Capan escaped the cold of Saint Paul, MN and won the Boys 13-14 division at this year’s FCG Texas Championship. The division was closely contested and Capan ended up winning the division by only 1 shot. Both Robert Lahrman (Dallas, TX) and Daniel Seibert (Waco, TX) were right on his tail. Capan shot a 74 on Saturday, while Lahrman and Seibert both shot 75. This would end up being the difference in the tournament. Capan and Lahrman went on to shoot 80, while Seibert shot 81 on Sunday.

Boys 11-12 Division:
The low round of the tournament came from Jenson Rogenes (Frisco, TX) in the Boys 11-12 Division. His first-round 3-under par 69 was the low round out of all divisions for the entire tournament. Although he faltered a bit on day two and shot a 75, he was still able to win the division at even-par, 144. Tucker Allen (Granbury, TX) was very consistent over his two days at the tournament. He fired two rounds of 75, which was good enough to lock up a second place finish in the division at a total of 6-over par, 150. Not far behind him in 3rd place was Holden Wisener (Dallas, TX) who shot 75-77—152 for a tournament score of 8-over par.

Girls 11-12 Division:
The Girls 11-12 Division consisted of only three competitors this year. Macy Fox (Marble Falls, TX) was able to take 1st place and the Callaway World Championship exemption after shooting 81-83—164, 20-over par. Following in 2nd place was Anna Takahashi (Grapevine, TX) who was 26-over par for the tournament after shooting 82-88—170. Rounding out the top three was Michelle Zhou (Southlake, TX) who took third place with her 32-over par tournament. Shooting two days of 80-96—176.

Boys 9-10 Division:
There was an interesting circumstance in the Boys 9-10 division. Advait Chutke (Flower Mound, TX) who shot 77-80 and Minas Manias (Frisco, TX) who shot 79-78 actually tied for first place at a total score of 157 (13-over par). However, instead of going out and playing a playoff for the Callaway Junior World Exemption, Manias conceded the win to Advait due to the fact that they would not be able to attend if they won the exemption, an example of true sportsmanship! Coming in 3rd place in the division was Kevin Jiang (San Diego, CA) who shot 82-77 over both days and finished at 15-over par, 159.

Girls 9-10 Division:
Lauren Nguyen (Katy, TX) and Symran Shah (Carrollton, TX) were the only two competitors in the Girls 9-10 division this year. Both put together two respectable tournament rounds given the conditions. Nguyen was able to come away with the victory after shooting 91-105 for a two-day total of 196 (52-over par). Shah impressively took 3 strokes off of her score on day two, shooting 104-101 for a total of 205 (61-over par).

Boys 8 & Under Division:
The Boys 8 & Under division only played 9 holes each day for a total of 18 holes for the tournament. Keaton Vo (Austin, TX) took first place with a 2-day total of 82. Vo shot a 38 on the first 9 holes and a 44 on his second 9 holes. His total of 82 was good for a 26-over par finish. Coming in second place was Ethan Fang (Plano, TX). Fang shot a 2-day total of 89, 39 on day one and 50 on day two. The total of 89 is a finish of 33-over par.
