Sycuan Golf Resort is one of San Diego’s finest golf destinations. Sycuan Golf Resort provides two full-length courses and also has a par 3 course that will test your skill with the short irons. The courses are always in excellent conditions and will be one of the host locations for the 6th Annual Junior Masters in July. This was a great opportunity for our junior golfers to get a sense of what is to come in the summer time.

Boys College Prep Division:
Luis Calderon (San Diego, CA) and Redford Bobbitt (San Diego, CA) were destined to face off after both had shot under par rounds on Saturday; Calderon with a 2-under 70 and Bobbitt with a 1-under 71. They were 7 shots clear of the rest of field after Saturday and ended up in a playoff at even-par (144) after Sunday. Trevor Norby (Carlsbad, CA) made a late run with 6 birdies on Sunday and carded the low round of the tournament at a 5-under 67 but missed out on the play-off by 1 shot, he would have to settle for a third place finish. In the end Calderon was able to win the playoff and take the victory in the Boys College Prep Division. Bobbitt would place second in the division.

Girls College Prep Division:
There was no catching Shiyang Fan (San Diego, CA) after her first round 74. She was clear of the field by 6 shots at that point and only added to her lead after a second day 73. Fan ended up winning the division by 10 shots, she finished the tournament at 3-over par. Sachi Hamada (Fullerton, CA) took second place in the Girls College Prep Division, she shot 80-77 to finish at 13-over 157. Rounding out the top three in this division was Jamie Binns (San Diego, CA). Binns, who shot an 81 on Saturday was able to shave 2 strokes off of her score on Sunday and finished with a 79. Her tournament total ended up being 160, equivalent to 16-over par.

Girls 14 & Under Division:
The Girls 14 & Under division also needed a playoff to decide the division winner. Wave Whiston (San Diego, CA) and Alli Kim (Murrieta, CA) both finished the tournament at 16-over 160. Their playoff only lasted 2 holes before Whiston made par and Kim made bogey; allowing Whiston to take the victory. Kim finished in second place and rounding out the top three finishers was Victoria Estrada (Las Vegas, NV), who finished the tournament with a total score of 23-over 167 (79-88).

Boys 13-14 Division:
Matthew Mendes (Del Mar, CA) went wire to wire for the victory in the Boys 13-14 division. Mendes ended up winning the division by 8 shots after shooting a 74-78—152 to finish the tournament at 8-over par. Justin Graf (Ramona, CA) and Kento Yamawaki (Encinitas, CA) both finished the tournament at 16-over 160. Second and third place was decided through a card-off and because of his second round 81, Yamawaki was awarded with second and Graf, who shot a second round 84, finished in third place.

Boys 11-12 Division:
Brendan Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) was able to pick up his 2nd win of the FCG 2013 Spring Season. Gonzalez was actually in last place after a first round 87 but was able to take 10 shots off of his score (77) and climbed back to the top of the division. Paul Sun (Irvine, CA) who was in first place after shooting an 81 on Saturday followed up with an 85 on Sunday to secure a second place finish. Sun finished the tournament at 22-over, 166. Umaan Avvari (Chula Vista, CA) finished in third place after finishing the tournament at 33-over par (177).

Boys 10 & Under:
After a very positive response, the Boys 10 & Under division continue to play 18-holes on Saturday for their tournaments. This week, Eric Doyle (San Diego, CA) carded a 9-over 81 to win the division, 9 shots clear of Ryan Plodkowski (San Diego, CA) who shot an 18-over 90 to claim second place. Colton Cherry traveled all the way from Las Vegas, NV to take third place after a one day total of 21-over, 83.
