Super Bowl weekend brought the largest field so far this year for the Future Champions Golf National Tour Spring Series. Our host this weekend was the fabulous Woods Valley Golf Club, an excellent layout of a golf course that takes great shot making to score well. Recently under new ownership, Future Champions looks forward to great things from Woods Valley in the near future and a long junior golf relationship!

Boys College Prep Division:
The Boys College Prep Division had some incredible scores come out of it this weekend. After the first round there were 5 players who shot par or better! The second day played a little bit harder with only 2 players breaking par, one of those was Marc Hedrick II (Encinitas, CA) who finished with a second day 69. In addition to his first day 72, his 3-under tournament total was good enough for a first place finish in the division.    Sang Woo You (Korea), who was actually one of the players to shoot over par on the first day, bounced back very well and finished day two with a two-under par 70. Sang Woo You finished the tournament at an even par 144, alone at second place. Chan Choi (Korea) and Sung Hyun Lee (Korea) had identical scores throughout both days of the tournament. Day one they both shot two-under, 70 and day two, they both shot a 4-over 76. Both players finished the tournament at a 2-over par, 146. There was a card-off to determine third place vs. fourth place and in the end Choi took third while Lee took fourth place.

Girls College Prep Division:
So Jin Baik (Korea) got off to a hot start on the first day, shooting a 2-under par 70 followed up by another sub par round of 71, with 5 birdies on the day, to finish the tournament at an amazing 3-under par, 141. The race for first was never really close, Baik had a 6 shot lead after day one and only increased her margin of victory to 8 shots by the end of day two. Shiyang Fan (San Diego, CA) was Baik’s closest competitor, Fan shot a 4-over 76 on day one and was able to shave 3 strokes off of her first day score on day two, finishing with a 1-over 73. Finishing the tournament at 5-over par. Sasha Banks (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) came in third place in the Girls College Prep Division, she was also able to improve on her day one score on day two. Banks went 79-76, 155 to finish 11-over par for the tournament.

Girls 14 & Under Division:
Getting her second win in only three tournaments, Hae Ran Ryu (Korea) made this one a little closer than her last victory, but in the end she was able to come out on top. Ryu was actually in second place after finishing day one with a 1-over par 73. Jee Hyun Ahn (Korea) had the lead with an even-par 72 after the first day. Unfortunately Ahn fell back quite a bit after a second round 78. Ahn’s second day 78, allowed for Ryu to jump into first place with a second round 76, for a 73-76, 149, 5-over par finish. Ahn would have to settle for a third place finish after she lost a card-off to Carolyn Zhao (San Diego, CA) after both players finished at 150, 6-over par. Zhao was able to win the card-off thanks to a second round 2-over par 74, the low round of the day for the division.

Boys 13-14 Division:
Myoung Kim (Korea) picked up his second tournament win in as many tournaments this weekend. He finished 7 shots clear of field and thanks to four birdies, his first round was in the red numbers. Kim shot a first round 2-under par, 70, followed up by a second round 2-over par, 74 to finish the tournament even-par, 144. Blake Petchel (Temecula, CA) who was in third place after a day one 80 managed to jump a spot into second place after a 1-under par, 71 second round.  Young Myung Jung (Korea) finished in third place, shooting a 75-79 to finish at 154,  10-over par.

Boys 11-12 Division:
Another tightly contested division, the Boys 11-12 division’s top three finishers were only separated by 4 shots. Hyun Seo Park (Korea) took a one shot lead into day two after firing off an even-par, 72 on day one. Day two did not treat any of the competitors in this division kindly, all but one player shot higher scores on day two. Park was able to hold on to the first place spot after a second round 77, to finish the tournament at 5-over par, 149.  Alexander Yang (Newport Coast, CA) who thrilled the gallery with his hole-out for eagle on hole 15 in round one, claimed second place in the division with a two day total of 8-over par, 152 (74-78). Returning Player of the Year from the Fall Series, Brendan Gonzalez (San Diego, CA) rounded out the top three in the division with his 9-over par, 153 finish.

Boys 10 & Under:
Only competing in one day of the tournament, the 10 & under division is now decided after Saturday’s round. All five players were extremely close throughout the tournament, 7 shots separated the winner from the 5th place finisher. Ryan Plodkowski (San Diego, CA) was able to come out on top of the division, thanks to a solid 13-over par, 85. Ryan Voois (Ladera Ranch, CA) coming off of his victory at Lake San Marcos Country Club two weeks ago, took second place this week, finishing with a 16-over par, 88. There was actually a card-off for third place in the division between Colton Cherry (Las Vegas, NV) and Kyndall Newman (Las Vegas, NV).  Both players finished the tournament at 18-over par, 90. Cherry was able to come out on top after besting Newman on hole 18 by 4 strokes.
