Many people know Arizona as a hot and dry climate, well Mother Nature proved us all wrong last weekend. The weekend consisted of rain and more rain. Luckily, the golf course was able to drain off the water fairly well and maintain its integrity for the most part. Although it was damp, the tournament was able to proceed.

Boys College Prep Division:
Another weekend, another playoff to decide the Boys College Prep Division! This weekend the playoff took place between Otto Vanhatalo (San Diego, CA) and Dan Starzinski (Phoenix, AZ). Vanhatalo had a 1-shot lead after day one, but Starzinski fought his way back into the playoff with a second day 72. A playoff would not have been needed had Starzinski not made two double bogeys on his final two holes of the second round. But both players came in with a total score of 6-over par, 148. The playoff, starting off the White Course, lasted 3 holes before Vanhatalo was able to claim victory. Starzinski took the second place prize and rounding out the top three was Jake Chanen (Phoenix, AZ) who finished the tournament with a total of 12-over, 154.

Girls College Prep Division:
The Girls College Prep Division was tightly contested throughout both days of the tournament. Katelyn Hicks (Mesa, AZ) had the lead after day one after shooting an 89, however, after a second day 96, she would fall to fourth place in the division. Sisters Ashley and Megan Ohland (Gilbert, AZ) finished second and third respectively in the division. Ashley shot a 94-85 over the two days to finish with a 37-over total of 179. Megan finished 98-85 for a 41-over 183. Both girls improved their scores drastically from the first day. Coming in first place in the Girls College Prep Division was Megan Liborio (Chandler, AZ). After a day one score of 91, she proceeded to shave 10 strokes off of her score, good for a second day 81 and allowed her to jump over the other competitors and take first place. Liborio finished the tournament at 30-over, 172.

Girls 14 & Under Division:
The Girls 14 & Under division only consisted of two players this tournament. Mikayla Fitzpatrick (Phoenix, AZ) and Rachel Reynolds (Gilbert, AZ) dueled it out on the rain soaked course. In the end, Fitzpatrick was able to cruise to victory, shooting a first day 87, followed up by a second round 86, for a total of 173, 29-over. Reynolds finished day one with a 99 and her second day with a 101, coming to a total of 200, 56-over for the tournament.

Boys 13-14 Division:
The player of the tournament this weekend came from the Boys 13-14 Division. That player is Charlie Magruder (Las Vegas, NV). Charlie managed to shoot even par (71-71-142) for the tournament, even though the weather did not cooperate the course conditions were soggy at best. Highlighted by his string of 4 birdies in a row on the first day, its safe to say Ocotillo Golf Resort was no match for Magruder. Rounding out the top three for this division was Thomas Sullivan (Mesa, AZ) who finished with a two-day total of 24-over par (84-82-166), good enough for a second place finish. Finishing in third place was Shane Muldowney who fired a two-day total of 171 (90-81), good for a total of 29-over par.

Congrats to all the top finishers and thank you to everyone for sticking it out through the tough weather conditions!
