First a foremost, a huge golf clap needs to go out to all the players, parents, and volunteers that attended this opening tournament because of the extreme weather conditions that faced the field. All the scores that were shot over the weekend, no matter what they were, were impressive due to the fact that the temperature never rose above 45 degrees both days. We also had a fair amount of wind on the second day with drove the temperatures down even further. Thank you again!

Boys College Prep Division:
It was a tight race at the top of the Boys 15-18 division after one day of play. The top five finishers were all with in 5 shots of each other. Little did we know that after Day2, it would become event closer. Michael Alvarez (Henderson, NV) and Marc Reyes (Los Angeles, CA) both went 74-77 to finish 7-over par. Chan Choi Choi (Korea), who shot a first day 76, shaved a shot off his score and fired a second day 75 to secure a spot in the playoff. We now had a three-man playoff. Starting on the 10th hole, and working their way through the back nine, Chan Choi Choi was eliminated on hole 11 and took 3rd place. This left Marc Reyes and Michael Alvarez to duel it out for 1st. The duel did not last long, because on the 12th hole, Alvarez was able to best Marc Reyes and claim 1st place in the division.

Girls College Prep Division:
The Girls College Prep Division leaders were within 3-shots of one another after day one, however after day two the leader was ahead of the pack by 12 shots.  Ha Yan Jung (Korea) shot a very consistent 75-75 for a two-day total of 6-over to take first place. Coming in second was her fellow country mate, Seo Hyeon Kim (Korea) who finished the tournament at 18-over, shooting 78-84 for the two days, good enough for second place.

Girls 14 & Under Division:
Another small division, the girls 14 & Under was only made up of two competitors. Ali Kim (Murrieta, CA) and Hae Ran Ryu (Korea). It was a close race for the title, in the end it was only decided by one shot. Kim shot an 85-80 for a 21-over two-day total. Ryu did her best to stage a comeback, firing off a second round 77, but her first day score of 89 held her back just enough for Kim to hold on to first place.

Boys 13-14 Division:
Taking after the Girls College Prep Division, the Boys 13-14 division was fairly close after day one, but turned into a run away after the tough conditions on day two. Young Myung Jung (Korea) and Gyu Min Lee (Korea) were within three shots of each other after the first day. But after Jung’s 76 the second day and Lee’s 82 the division was won by Jung with a two day total of 8-over 152. Lee finished with a two-day total of 17-over (161). Coming in 3rd place was Christopher Kim (Cerritos, CA) who shot an 84-80 for a two-day total of 20-over 164.

Boys 11-12 Division:
One playoff was not enough for the day, the Boys 11-12 division was also decided by a playoff. Edwin Kuang (Murrieta, CA) & Alexander Yang (Newport Coast, CA) who have a history in playoffs together, went head-to-head in another one to decide the winner. Both of them finished the tournament with a two-day total of 10-over (154). Also going off the 10th hole, this playoff did not last as long as the first. Kuang hit his approach to about 6-feet and converted the birdie putt on the first playoff hole to take first place. Yang came in second and rounding out the top three was Brendan Gonzalez (Orange, CA) who shot 84-80 for a two-day total of 20-over.

Boys 10 & Under:
This division only consisted of two players this weekend. Leo Lu (Chino Hills, CA) and Vijay Damerla (Arcadia, CA). Leo Lu had a very consistent weekend, shooting an 88-88 for a two-day total of 15-over and good enough to win first place. Damerla, who gets special congratulations for competing in his first 18-hole tournament, fired a 105 the first day but then proceeded to shoot a very respectable 87 on the second day. An entire 18 strokes better than day one. Damerla took home his first ever trophy and it was good for a second place finish.
