FCG Pacific
Northwest Championship
Chambers Bay Golf Course
University Place, Washington
FINAL FIELD RESULTS
The
fourth FCG World Series Event of the year was held at the host site of the 2015
U.S. Open of golf, Chambers Bay is a relatively new course comparatively, but
it is something special. In typical
links style fashion, the weather proved to be a challenge all weekend. The wind
and rain and temperatures were reflective of its location along the Washington
coast. Highlighted by the course and a great college talk from Casey Martin,
head golf coach at University of Oregon, FCG really enjoyed their time in the
Pacific Northwest.
FCG
is very pleased with the turnout and reception that we received for our first
time visiting the Pacific Northwest. The course staff, players, parents, and
everyone else involved were fantastic and we look forward to returning next
year. Thanks to everyone who made this event possible.
Boys 15-18 Division:
Eric
Ansett (Spokane, WA) was in second place after he shot a 79 on Saturday but was
able to jump up into first place after another 79 on Sunday. Nick Baines
(Portland, OR) who had the lead going into Sunday after shooting a 74,
struggled on day two and shot an 86 which dropped him down into second place.
Baines would finish the tournament at 16-over par, 160. Gregory Gildea
(Lakewood, WA) finished up in third place for the Championship. Gildea put
together two solid rounds of 80 and 81 over the two days to finish at a
tournament total 161, 17-over par.
Girls 15-18 Division:
Gigi
Stoll (Beaverton, OR) known as one of the best women’s golfers in the country
was able to win her division by 9 shots. She only led by 1 after the first day
but was able to distance herself from the field on day two with a solid 76 to
finish the tournament at 161, 17-over par. Sarah Archuleta (West Linn, OR) was
able to put together two consistent rounds of 86-84—170 to finish in second
place at 26-over par. Coming in third place was Sarah Lawrence (Duvall, WA).
She was tied for second with Archuleta after a day one 86 but fell back into
third place after a second day 91 to finish the tournament at 33-over par 177.
Boys 13-14 Division:
The
Boys 13-14 division needed a three-way playoff to decide the winner. Listed
below are the players in the playoff and what they shot over the first two days
of the tournament:
Luke Doss (Seatac, WA) – 83-83—166
Callum Davison (Duncan, BC) – 84-82—166
Benjamin Gruher (Camas, WA) – 77-89—166
Once the playoff began, it did not take long for the
outcome to be decided. Doss made par on the first hole and that’s all it would
take for him to claim the win in the division. There was then a card-off for
second and third place, which Davison won by shooting the lower of the two
rounds on Sunday.
Girls 13-14 Division:
Although
there were only three participants in this division, so everyone was guaranteed
to place top-3, it was still one of the most competitive divisions in the
tournament. All three players finished within 5 shots of each other. Renee Kwak
(Snohomish, WA) led from the beginning after shooting an 85 on Saturday
followed up by an 89 on Sunday for a tournament total of 174, 30-over par. Kiana
Oshiro (Medford, OR) and Kenedee Peters (Olympia, WA) were battling for second
place throughout the final day of the tournament. Oshiro was able to finish in
second after shooting 87-89 for a tournament total of 176, 32-over par. Peters
finished up in third place after a 92 on day one and a much-improved 87 on
Sunday. Peters finished the tournament at 35-over par, 179.
Boys 11-12 Division:
The
Boys 11-12 division was our largest division this tournament and also contained
some of the lowest rounds of the tournament. Tucker Allen (Granbury, TX) had
the low round of the tournament on Saturday with an even-par 72, he followed
that up with an 80 on Sunday to finish the tournament at 152, 8-over par.
Coming in second place was David Hu (Vancouver, BC). He shot an 81 on the first
day, but came back strong on Sunday and fired off a 75, which was good enough
to land him second place in the division. Rounding out the top three finishers
is Alvin Kwak (Snohomish, WA). Kwak actually finished in a tie for third but
was able to win the card off because he shot a lower score (81) on Sunday. Kwak
shot 76 on Saturday, which helped propel him to a third, place finish in the
tournament.
Girls 11-12 Division:
Being
the only participant in her division, Brittany Kwon (Bremerton, WA) was
automatically awarded first place, but that did not stop her from playing with
the Girls 13-14 division and putting together two very respectable rounds. Kwon
shot 86-88 to finish the tournament at 30 over par.
