HISTORY OF THE FUTURE CHAMPIONS GOLF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

After a few years of success hosting junior golf tournaments, the Future Champions Golf program decided to launch their own World Championship. A Logo was created and the event was born in June 2008. The concept was a Major Event to annually be held on President's Weekend in February. Three days of competition for the older divisions and two days for the younger divisions. With 9 months of planning and preparation the 1st event was held and it was a huge hit with over 220 players competing at various courses in San Diego County. The event did draw some global competition and great players from all over the Western United States. Future Champions Golf had also previously launched 2 Major events that were seeing tremendous success - The San Diego Junior Amateur and the San Diego Junior Masters. In Summer of 2010 after hosting 2 great events on president's Weekend, FCG felt that if we were truly going to host a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP that the event must be moved to the summer. In addition the host course needed to be amazing. An initial phone call was made to PGA West, the Western Home of Golf in America to be the annual host of this growing event. The staff loved the concept and the event was moved to July 2011 at PGA West and La Quinta Resort.

The first event at PGA West in 2011 was a huge hit. The staff at the course and the resort were eager and waiting to help everyone have a wonderful week of golf! We had a total of 227 players from over 25 different countries play in the event. Players competed for 3 rounds of golf with 7:30am shotgun starts each day to avoid the heat of the day in the desert. The afternoons were filled with Pool Time, Movie Watching, and Family Relaxation. Players were allowed to have a caddy and many of the divisions were able to ride in carts. Each evening Future Champions Golf organized special events. We hosted a Welcome Party at the Eisenhower Suite that featured a putting contest, chip over the pool contest, and all players received their tournament tee gifts and information. On night 2 of the event players and parents were treated to a nigh at Golfsmith with great discounts and a Pizza Party for everyone. The next night featured a College Golf Seminar by Sportsforce which was attended by over 100 people! Every night there was a movie set up in one of the rooms for players to stop by and hang out with friends.

In May 2012 Future Champions Golf approached Odyssey to become the title sponsor of the event and the name ODYSSEY WORLD JUNIOR. With the success of our tournament program and our relationship with Callaway Golf as ou rprogram sponsor it was a HUGE YES for Odyssey to get behind the event. Stay tuned for many more years of exciting golf action each summer!
