2010 Final Leaderboard
The 2010 FCG World Championship featured 268 players from 15 states and 8 countries with one of the strongest fields around.
A very difficult Pala Mesa Golf Course was host to the 13-14 and 15-18 Divisions and featured some great excitement coming down the stretch. It was close in the 15-18 Boys Division with Wonje Choi from San Diego firing a final round 69 and the low round of the tournament to take the Title as FCG World Champion. After the 2nd round 14 year old Jonah Texeira had the lead with a 36-Hole 147 Total. Wonje lurked a few strokes back at 150 but played a flawless final round. Coming in 2nd Place was Rancho Bernardo High School's Eric Sugimoto who fired rounds of 75-74-73. Coming in 3rd place was Jonah Texeira from Northridge who scored 77-70-76. Rounding out the top 5 was Eric Peng from San Diego who took fourth place and Christopher Tuulik grabbed 5th. Way to to go players! Wonje CHoi earns an AJGA Tournament Exemption for his victory.
In the Girls 15-18 Division we had a tight race all weekend with our top 5 players battling it out for the championship. Winning the division is Livermoore's Casie Cathrea who fired a final round 71 to win by 5 strokes over 2nd place finisher Minjia Luo from San Diego and Hee Wook Choi also from San Diego at 227. Casie has compiled a phenomenal resume of late coming off victories at the San Diego Junior Amateur in December, the CA Women's Amateur, and played in the LPGA CVS Championship last Summer. The 4th place finisher is Del Mar's Courtney Hooton who was the 2009 FCG World Champion. Rounding out the top 5 is the 2009 San Diego Junior Amatuer Champion Linda Brown from San Leandro, CA. Congratulations to all of the Girls 15-18 Players. Casie Cathrea earns an AJGA Tournament Exemption for her victory.
In the Boys 13-14 we had our tightest race of the event with 4 players really going head to head all weekend. Taking the title was short game wizard Gordon Neale from Rancho Santa Margarita firing impressive rounds of 75-72-70 on the 6100 yard layout. The 13-14 Final Round Pairing featured Gordon Neale, Tyler Moore, Dean Sakata, and Redford Bobbit who all came in the clubhouse with strong finishes. Coming in a 2nd place tie is Escondido's Tyler Moore and Dean Sakata from Diamond Bar who missed by just a stroke finishing at 218. Finishing in 4th place is San Diego's Redford Bobbitt who played solid golf with rounds of 75-74-75. In 5th place is Clayton Madey from West Linn, Oregon and Miguel Delgado of Novato, CA. Way to go players! It was a lot of fun to watch and hear the stories of how it all finished. Gordon Neale earns a AJGA Junior All Star Exemption for his win!
In the Girls 13-14 Division Anne Freman went wire to wire to claim the title as FCG World Champion. She fired the low round each day with 75-78-81 on the difficult layout. She earns an AJGA Junior All Star Exemption with her victory. Coming in 2nd place is 2009 FCG World Champion Jennifer Peng who finished at 241. 3rd place goes to Carlsbad's Amanda Kahn with a 251 finish. In 4th place is Emliy Laskin from Elk Grove, CA and in 5th place is Alana Uriell from Carlsbad. Way to go ladies!
In the Boys 11-12 Division San Diego's Norman Xiong is our FCG World Champion after firing a final round 2 under par 70 on the Doubletree layout. Norman is the 2009 Callaway Junior World Champion in the 9-10 Division. Way to go Norman. Coming in 2nd place isa tie with 2 great players. Sunny Yan from Salinas finishes in 2nd place after a solid finish at last months San Diego Junior Amateur Championship. Tieing Sunny is 3-Time Junior World Champion Sahith Theegala who is also the 2009 FCG World Champion. They finished just a shot behind Norman at 147. Coming in 4th Place is Jamie Cheatham from Rancho Santa Fe and a close 5th place is Caleb Ramirez from Blythe. Way to go 11-12 Boys!
In the 11-12 Girls Division a powerhouse competitor takes the title as Alexis Monet Flores from Guatemala is our Champion. She won the 2009 FCG World Championship also. Coming in 2nd place is Chula Vista standout Jessica Mangrobang who is also a force to reckon with. 3rd place finisher is the fun personality Madison Kerley from Chandler, Arizona who has become a regular on the FCG National Tour. We had a 4 way tie for 4th place with Chloe Corriveau from Monterey, Divya Manthena from Camrillo, Ariadna Fonseca from Bogota, Colombia, and Morgan Gonzles from Chandler, Arizona. Way to go 11-12 Girls.
In the 9-10 Boys Division Charlie Reiter from Palm Desert takes the Championship with a solid performance. Charlie is a really cool kid always decked out in clothes resembling the late Payne Stewart. Way to go Charlie on another great accomplishment. Coming in 2nd Place all the way from Malaysia is Bryan Teoh Wiyang who missed by just a stroke. Bryan also played in the 2009 San Diego Junior Masters and finished in a close 2nd by one-stroke. In 3rd place is Richard Macarans from Saipan. Coming in 4th place is the latest hot player in our 10 and under National Tour division, Devon Bling from Ridgecrest. Rounding out the top 5 is the super-agressive Blake Petchel from Temecula, CA. Way to go 9-10 Boys!
In the 9-10 Girls Division Ty Akabane from Danville, CA takes the Title with an impressive final round 2 under par 70! How do you shoot that low on this course at that age? She wins by 7 strokes over 2md place Maddy Vergura of Concord, Massachussettes. In 3rd place is Rancho Cucamunga's Jade Isra Siphomsay who has been playing very well. Our 4th place finisher is Victoria Estrada from Henderson, Nevada with 2 consistent rounds of 81-80. Tieing for 5th place is the first round leader Calista Reyes from San Diego, CA and Kailie Vongsaga from Moreno Valley. Way to go 9-10 Girls.
In 7-8 Boys Division we had a 7-Hole playoff to determine the Champion. Congratulations to Alexander Pak from San Clemente for winning the division. Alexander played even par golf both days to win. Finishing in 2nd place after the playoff is Karl Vilips all the way from Australia. Karl put together a sweet little 33 on Sunday to tie Alexander and force a playoff. Way to go you 2! Coming in 3rd place is Andrew Jung from San Diego who shot a 75 over the 2 days. 4th place finisher is Brett Sodetz from henderson nevada who always has a strong finish. Coming in 5th place is powerhouse Jackson Rivera of Rossmoor, CA who finished at +7 for the 2 days.
In the 7-8 Girls Division FCG National Tour player Karah Sanford scored an impressive 1 under par 71 over the 2 days to win by 8 strokes over 2nd place finisher Brianna Navarossa. Both of these girls compete here in San Diego and always are among the leaders. Coming in 3rd place is defending champion (6 and under) Arlene Faye Salvador of Palmdale, CA. In 4th place is Kate Villegas of Arcadia with an 84. 5th place honors go to Lauren Metcalf of Yuma, Arizona. Way to go ladies!!!
In the Boys 6 and Under at Colina Park local Jaden Huggins of Murrieta takes the title as World Champion. Jaden scored +15 over the 2 days at Colina Park to win by just 2 strokes over 2nd place finisher Ian Maspat of San Diego. Coming in 3rd place is Jeevan Sihota all the way from Victoria, BC. In 5th place is Brayden Bozak of Littlen, Colorado. Way to go Young Stars!
In the Girls 6 and Under we had 4 competitors battle the links at Colina Park. Finishing on top is Amari Avery from Anaheim, CA at +19. In 2nd place is Aaryanna Morris of Avondale, AZ by just 2 strokes. Our 3rd place finisher is Banet Flores from Guatemala who competed in her first National Tour event. She plans to give her sister a run as she gets older. Our fourth place finisher is local player Sriya Mupparaju who continues to shoot lower scores at each event she plays. Watch out for thes 4 young ladies!
