Golf is a very difficult game because it encompasses so many variables of physical, mental, emotional feelings.
There are NO SHORTCUTS to becoming a better golfer.
The first step is to create a GOAL for yourself. How good do I want to be and by when.
You must take lessons to learn the golf swing and how to play the game.
How to take lessons?
Schedule an appointment.
Arrive to your lesson at least 15-30 minutes before to warm up. You should be ready to go when it your time.
Write down notes in a small booklet to help you remember the lesson.
Ask questions during the lesson to make sure you know exactly why you are changing something in your swing.
Make sure before you leave the lesson that you understand what you need to be practicing.
Do not leave the driving range after your lesson is over. You need to practice what you have just learned. You are trying to build a
consistent golf game at the level you aspire to play at. You must practice repetition, repetition…..
You must have an exercise regimen.
You must have a diet regimen, especially when on the course, the day of a tournament, and even the night before a
tournament.
Practice after you play a round of golf and work on your weaknesses.
Learn how to overcome swing faults on the course. It will be very seldom that your instructor will be on the courseto help you through a bad swing day. Grind it out.
Figure out how far each club goes. It is crucial to know how far each iron and wood flies to become a good golfer, then take into consideration all other factors such as wind, lie, elevation, temperature, time of day, altitude, etc.
Play away from your weaknesses.Make the course play as easy as possible. If you are better at 120 yards than 50 yards lay up to 120, don't leave yourself 50 yard pitch shots if you aren't great at them.
Focus on a Routine. Routine is the only thing that can help you control your emotions and prepare you for success. Stick to it, practice it, make it part of your personality.
Tempo- Learn to swing the club the same speed for 18 holes. If you want to be consistent and sub par you have to have completecontrol of your game.
Don't have a bad attitude. Be confident, be humble, be cautious of others, and remember that golf is a game.
Don't get down on yourself.
Laugh off the horrible shots, smile at the shanks, the tops, the fats.
Practice putting like it is to win the Masters.
Play Golf from the Red tees.
Play Golf with just one club or maybe even three.
Learn how to be creative with your shot making.
Play a hole backwards. Hit PW then 3 wood.
Don't think about your swing while playing. Think about one shot at a time. Think about getting the ball in the cup in as few shots as possible. Think about the TARGET.
Plot your way around the course... from fairway to green to putt.
NEVER FORGET THAT GOLF IS JUST A GAME. PLAY HARD,
PRACTICE HARD, LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN,
BUT BE A GOOD SPORT DURING THE PROCESS.
